ALaS…! It’s Ice Bucket and Selfie again…

Earlier when Facebook was at its peak, predicting the news-feed was not such an easy task. Every time we login to our account, we would definitely find something meaningful that would make us Awe

There used to be beautiful photographs taken by Hubble Telescope or some extremely funny cartoons or the facts you couldn’t even think of (like 2+2=5 !) or your friend posing along some random celebrity… Facebook was fun to watch out, especially when you desperately needed a power-break during your office hours or when you got stuck in some ‘I-don’t-know-what-Iam-doing-here’ kind of a marriage…

Then slowly our feeds started to change and so did our expressions – from Awe to OMG… The beautiful photographs were no longer treated as the sensation-of-the-day as the then facebookers demanded x-factor in your posts. And moreover, most of the photos were been replaced by videos, which used to cover vast areas of topics like – How a mere shampoo can cause a skin cancer (in HD) or How mermaids were found in so-and-so sea shore (P.S – Any resemblance with a previous movie characters is purely coincidental…!) or How would an Alien order a cup of cappuccino when they would visit the Earth (in English subtitles) – Simply no mere respect for ‘Faint-Hearts’…

And then came the present era with feeds piling up mainly because of three things – Selfies, Ice Bucket Challenge and Selfies (Ops! Did I mention Selfies earlier? Selfies-selfies-selfies…). With the front cameras constantly improving their efficiency, the selfie lovers are enjoying both the technology as well as the comments they are getting… So if there is one thing that can divert me from this ‘Selfie-Mania’, then the celestial answer would be ALaS ! – I mean the ALS-Ice Bucket Challenge…

If getting doused by a bucket full of ice water is giving you a ‘cool’ look in Facebook (I mean literally cool), how come it is helpful for promoting ‘Aquatrophic Linear Sclerosis’ – ALS. And if at all the Ice Bucket Challenge is really about spreading awareness about ALS, then I must say that with the given popularity the ALS-IBC is getting in the social media, everyone who are reading this post must identify that ALS ‘actually’ means “ Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis” – No offence there…

So, travelling via ‘Awe – OMG – ALaS’ highway, our journey finally came to where we are at ‘present’. But unless there is some alien computer virus which can shut down all the computer grids simultaneously, I don’t believe that Facebook is not having the any future (Although the future may not be that bright). So, the question of the hour is how would that future be..? After ‘Awe-OMG-ALaS’, where would our journey in Facebook lead to…?

Well, only time will tell us…

So the best thing we can do right now is to take few Selfies and challenge our friends (or the else) for ALS-IBC because, if there is one thing about this generation – Everything becomes Old-fashioned in the blink of an eye. So let’s put all the sane and sensible feelings aside and let’s enjoy the present trend before its too late…

Well..That was cool...
Well..That was cool…

Digitalization of Friendship…!

“ An individual can have anything that a life can offer – career, family and money – but if a person didn’t have a good friend, his or her life would be fundamentally lacking…”

– Aristotle

Friendship is one of the purest relations on this Earth and its origin states back to the beginning of the human civilization or even earlier…Friendship allows us to see ourselves from the perspective of others. They open up new interests and deepen the current ones. Human beings are social beings and hence good friendship always makes our life a wholesome and awesome experience…

Things change rapidly with respect to time… And it is that constant evolution of the world around us that keeps our life interesting and exciting… But there are certain things that shouldn’t be disturbed or rather changed. Sometimes, we run with such a speed that we tend to forget our actual destination – if there is one such thing present…

On this friendship day, I just want to question myself – Are we ready for this digitalisation of friendship? Does this lightning speed communication actually help us to gain more friends? Do the next generation feel themselves more connected or more alone…?

Well, according to many researchers, Social media is affecting the teen’s concept of friendship. Young people feel themselves socially supported by having a large network of online friends, whom they may never see… The ease of electronic communication may be making teens less interested in face-to-face communication with their friends. Instead many young people now derive personal support and affirmation form the ‘Likes’ and ‘Comments’ to their postings…

But this doesn’t mean that we should all stop social networking…Digital communication is not a bad thing. But if we are losing the opportunity to meet with our friends and talk with them face-to-face; Now that’s a problem…

Too much of anything is not good and this applies for the communication as well. So I think it would be wise to atleast take a break from our Cyber-World and spend some time in our bookstore, where you can buy your favourite book to your friend…Now that’s a positive example you can give to the next generation on this friendship day.

Today’s Oppression…

Today, all of us do, by our presence here . . . confer glory and hope to new-born liberty. Out of the experience of an extraordinary human disaster that lasted too long, must be born a society of which all humanity will be proud.

We have, at last, achieved our political emancipation. We pledge ourselves to liberate all our people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender, and other discrimination.

Never, never, and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another. . . . The sun shall never set on so glorious human achievement. Let freedom reign. God bless Africa! ”

Extracted from Nelson Mandela’s auto biography – Long walk to freedom.

These words are spoken by Nelson Mandela himself on May 10 – 1994, when he officially addressed the people of his country as the first black president of the South Africa. His speech reflects the subjugation that his people went through in the past few decades. And after years and years of struggle with strong sprits – they finally got their freedom.

On this Mandela week, let us once again go through the words form his historical speech.

Never again shall it be that this ‘beautiful land’ will again experience the oppression of one by another. . .

And here, I am regarding the word ‘beautiful land’ to my country – India.

Are we free form all kinds of oppression that the people might face…?

No. And this oppression doesn’t depend on the colour of the skin. Rather it depends on price-tag of the clothes that we wear on it…

The Poor were always considered as the burden for the country’s development. Things never got improved for them as they would have wanted. With the prices of the basic commodities sky-rocketing, it has become highly difficult for them to lead at least a normal life. And to worsen their present condition, education for their children has become very challenging…

With private schools mushrooming with “high-profile fee structure” and on the other hand with government schools losing their standards to meet the educational demands, the situation of the deprived is unimaginable.

We all agree that education is the only thing that can bring them respect – socially and financially. And if we are taking away this opportunity form them, then isn’t it a serious oppression they are facing today…?

May be the time has arisen to speak on this subject on a greater platform. I always wondered why the government schools can’t even function with basic facilities, whereas the government universities like IIT’s and other regional universities outshine the private ones…

Is it because the government think that schooling is not-that-important or they think it’s not worth investing…?

Schooling is the most lovable thing in our childhood and the most defining thing in our life. It’s not necessary that every one of us should find his living based on his educational qualification but that can’t rule out the importance of value education.

The government should look at the gravity of this situation and should make sure that irrespective of the price-tag, all the children will be having an ideal Launchpad to take off for their careers…

The decade “ 2005 – 2014 ” is known as United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. Let us atleast respect that and take some measures for our sustainable “development”…

The sun shall never set on so glorious human achievement. Let freedom reign…

Madiba for Africa…

I was born free – like a tree,

And lived the childhood with so glee.

But it was when I was brought to the knee,

I couldn’t believe what I did see – I wasn’t free…!

It was then I was judged by skin.

It was when this humanity made a sin.

It was then we fought so long.

It was when they rand this apartheid song – It was wrong…!

Inspite of being the prisoners in Robben Islands,

We neither quit our fight – nor did we raise our hands.

After years and years, our vision has come to light,

When this nation had both Black and White – With equal right

And now it’s time to change this forever.

So that this apartheism can be heard for never…

So this is my story – I am Madiba.

Let’s strive for our glory – together for Africa…!

Individuals don’t make companies – Teams do…

Individuals don’t make companies – Teams do…

Fortunately, there is no need of some quantum technology to prove that “Individuals don’t make companies – Teams do… ”, as the dictionary meaning of the word Company itself defines as “A group of people who combine together to form a business” or “Being together with someone”

So, obviously the word Team bonds a ‘long-lasting – never-ending’ relationship with company when compared to the word Individual

Hence, Individuals don’t make companies – Teams do…

Then why don’t we here of some great teamwork when we speak of some great companies? Why is it just Mark Zukerburg and Steve Jobs that occupy the headlines of the Business World when other members of the team fail to do so..?

Well…The above condition is quite similar to the largest game of this planet – Football, where we here only the names of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but not the other members of their teams…Because it’s them who score the goals… They are the players who bring the points for their team.

But that doesn’t imply that the rest of the team didn’t play ‘their part’ in scoring the goal.

The job of the defender is just to break the plans of the opposition striker. He hardly gets an opportunity to score goals in his career…But without him, there couldn’t be a team…

A successful soccer team contains a well organised members starting from strikers, mid-fielders, defenders, goal-keepers, managers, coaches, medical staff, and the list is considerably large… And even if one of the pieces is missing – the clock cannot work properly…

Hence even though “Individuals don’t make companies – Teams do…” We also need to remember that

“Teams don’t make into the headlines – Individuals do…”

So, it’s not about ‘Individual Vs Team’ that we need to discuss here – rather it’s about an individual leading a team or a team working collectively for a common dream, by respecting the work of his teammates…

The Behind-The-Hero Initiative:-

Tony Stark may be the action icon of the Marvel Avengers but ‘The Avengers Initiative’ doesn’t define some bunch of super heroes – It is actually much more than that…And the success of The Avengers isn’t just dependent on the action heroes as a dedicative person such as ‘Agent Coulson’ can also knockout the enemy without any super human powers…

So, it’s not just about the heroes on the screen – rather it’s also about the heroes “behind the screen”

And moreover, teamwork need not be some direct support for the mission – It can also be in the form of guidance and inspiration just like in the case of Batman – Bruce Wayne, where he drew the positive guidance from his long-time confidante, Alfred Pennyworth. And thus he indirectly teamed with Batman to catch the criminal masterminds…

Likewise, behind every great entrepreneur like Steve Jobs and Mark Zukerburg, there must be many persons supporting either directly or indirectly to achieve their dreams…

Thus their companies don’t just reflect their personal achievements, but it reflects a great teamwork ‘behind the screen’ which needs to be recognised and celebrated so that the future entrepreneurs may come to know that “ Starting a company isn’t a one-man-show, rather it’s a collective working of each individual and respecting the work of others while sharing a common goal…”

And thus, if you want to find yourself in the headlines of the Business World – you better have a team first…

teamwork wins...

Edward Snowden – The Person of the year 2013

Internet is not just a basic utility, but it is rather considered as oxygen now-a-days as things tend to freeze without it – even for a single minute…With the ultra-fast and secure communications, internet became a ‘faithful messenger’, who can literally travel the whole world…

That’s the power of the ‘internet’.

And now if you suddenly reveal that all your messages weren’t that secure in the hands of that “undercover” faithful messenger – a revolution was about to happen – or in this case Edward Snowden

Edward Snowden, a former C.I.A and National Security Agency [ N.S.A ] employee, who unveiled the mass surveillance program of NSA – or we better call it PRISM was named as The Guardian “Person of the year” – 2013.He also received the famous “Sam Adams Award” this year…

Now what made Edward Snowden the person of the year ..?

He didn’t just reveal the secret of NSA, but he did it on knowing the consequences he had to face form the government… In one of the interviews he told, “I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions, and that the return of this information to the public marks my end.”

Thus the Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has described Edward Snowden as a “hero”, declaring that “history will judge him very favourably.”

So let’s hope that Jimmy Wales words come true…

Long live Snowden – The person of the year 2013…

The Wind, The Blood and The Dried leaves…

Once upon a time, there lived a lion who was the king of the jungle. He ruled the jungle with all the wisdom and hence all the animals lived happily. And just when all the things were going perfect, the king fell ill… He was no longer in a position to rule the jungle. Hence he appointed his brother as a stand-in and went deep into the forest to have proper medication.

The brother had neither wisdom nor the knowledge to rule the jungle. The entire jungle was unhappy about his rule. Unable to tolerate this nuisance any longer, a brave centaur went into the forest to inform his beloved king about the present situation.

Unfortunately, he didn’t make through the forest… he didn’t return back to his family either… He was been killed. And everyone knew who did it. Hence the strongest and the bravest men in the jungle formed a union and started towards the king…

And this time – the result was even more devastating. Those men fought in vain but they had no chance against the mighty clan of lions.

Things seemed very much tangled when the mass murderer himself came to the public and warned them that any interference to his governance is no longer tolerated. All their fates were sealed…

The only possible way to get out of this not-so-friendly situation was to inform the king about the present status – And since they couldn’t do it directly, they searched for other alternatives.

All the animals gathered a pile of dried leaves and dyed them red with their own blood and scattered them in air. They hoped that at least one leaf would reach the king and convey their condition.

The wind favoured the weak and thus their beloved king was back and killed his brother. The rogue soldiers were banished. The king later came to know that his brother was forming an alliance with their rivals and they were all planning to take on the king himself. Thus the red leaves didn’t just save the helpless animals; they saved their beloved king too…

That is the power of media.

That is the power of the citizens, when they work collectively for a better society…

And that power – that fire is at its best when the ruling government is democratic as the democracy is itself defined as the government of the people – by the people – for the people…

In a country like India, were the politics are generally avoided by the educated people, the encouragement of the working class to participate in the democratic dialogues is very essential…

Media plays a vital role here. Just as it was the ‘wind’ in the earlier story, media can actually [ and virtually ] connect the people with the government. And just like in the case of wind, it works best at the times of utmost need.

But not all the situations are urgent. Some are worth discussing in the public so that a better solution may be obtained on a longer run… And this is where media can invite the public to confidently exchange their thoughts. When public starts to react along with the media, there is no special need for constructive reforms… The government will either act or be forced to act positively…

That’s the power of ‘blood’.

Without blood, there is no great significance for the wind in the story…

And going back to the story, one more element acted simultaneously along with the wind and blood to bring back smiles to the animals…

The ‘dried leaves’ – just the similar comparison to the present day ‘internet’ – fast and light weight…

With the evolution of internet, the boundaries of social media were expanded beyond their imagination and various organisations like Avaaz.org, ifocusmission.com are involving citizens – especially the youth in the social activities, where our each click will define the well-being of the future generations. And you don’t need to shed even a single drop of ‘blood’ in these online social movements… It’s like providing a ‘bottle of ink’ to the animals in the story…

It is the fastest and the easiest means to react to the immoral and to gather support from everyone…

And finally,

No matter how many leaves we gather,

No matter how much blood we gush,

No matter how strong the wind is…

The ultimate aim must be the well-being of the ‘future generations’.

“Because either the way, History will remember us…”

lets build a perfect country...
lets build a perfect country…
