Forest – For Rest …?

Millions of years ago, there was an event named “ Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse ”, where sharp climatic changes destroyed tropical rainforests, causing the extinction of many plant and animal species… Since then, there was a gradual decrease in the worldwide greenery…

The decline in the forest affected the climatic conditions and those climatic conditions declined the forests even further…

It’s hard to believe that a single event could change the course of the history. And one thing which comes along with the history is – It cannot be changed…

Change – Change in the human behaviour – change in the course of the nature or in this case ‘ gradual increase in the forest cover ‘… On this World Forestry Day – 21st March, let’s celebrate this change and make it as an example for the coming generations…

Earlier it was thought that the decline in the forest area is unstoppable and inevitable; forget about the increment, many organisations fought just to stop the unnecessary destruction… Forest area, which contains about 90% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity, was soon assumed to be taking rest – forever…

Forest – for rest …?

Everything went gloomy and downhearted not until the dragon country – China determined for the “ Green wall of China “  project. And now, its forest cover which was 12% some two decades ago grown to 16.55%… And each present growth in the forest area can remove billions of tons of carbon each year, emitted into the atmosphere. Now that’s what called the best example you could set for the future generations…

Forest – for the best…!

So let’s cheer for all those who created history and let’s start working together so that the possible extinction could be prevented.

Let’s do it for our ‘Mother’ Nature…

If the Earth dies …

“If the Earth dies – you die.

If you die – the Earth survives…”

Every day – we ’The Humans’ think that we are contributing for something great on this planet. We think that the Earth must be fortunate enough to carry us…But after reading the earlier dialogue, we realise that we are nothing more than some complex organisms, who first searched for food, clothing and shelter during the early evolution process and later utilised every possible resource of this Earth – for his own personal needs and greed…

The starting dialogue of this article is from the 2008 American Science fiction film, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. It follows ‘Klaatu’ [An alien messenger in human form], who comes here as a result of humankind’s environmental damage to the Earth, to change our human behaviour or to eradicate us from the Earth…

So – do we deserve a second chance?

Well…I don’t believe that some alien Klaatu will to ‘America’ to remind us that we are out of time…And hence there is no question of a second chance here.

Then who will tap us when we are sleeping in a room full of poisonous fumes..? Our nature will. And it will act as the messenger as well as the Executioner…And unlike the Klaatu, it isn’t going to speak clearly in English, “You are running out of time…” It does leave clues, but we need to be patient enough to think about them.

2013 is termed as one of the hottest year ever! Isn’t it a straight forward clue that our atmosphere is no longer in a position to withstand such a large quantities of Greenhouse gases…

So let’s start to think before it is too late… And first, let’s create awareness among the people about the disintegration of the Natural environment and its harmful effects on plants, animals and also the Humans…

Everyone make mistakes. It’s in the Human nature… It’s also in the nature of humans to learn from their mistakes… and if we don’t – then what’s the point in living? What’s the point in a second chance? And above all, what’s the point of our evolution…?

Do we deserve the second chance...?
Do we deserve the second chance…?

My Environmental tour…

Well…After some exams and unexpected holidays, I am back to my usual blogging and how should I start my new season -? Not with an another fantasy I guess, as I am planning to write about my experience of our ‘Environmental Tour’ to “Talakona” in Andhra Pradesh…
It was Nov-14th and the day started quite early then it should have – thanks to my over-cautious mother that I was out of my home with taa-taa-bye-bye’s all by 5:30 itself…
And after fast-forwarding the usual bus journey…Our bus parked itself near the entrance of Talakona tourism entrance and I was really eager to see the waterfalls as soon as I got down. But all I found beyond the entrance was a long path which will [ hopefully ] lead us to the actual waterfall.
I was all tired and hungry by then and thus this ‘walk-a-mile-for-a-while’ concept didn’t favour me…But thanks to my friends who pushed, dragged and rolled me through that never-quite-ending serpentine path. And finally, we heard the distant gushing sound of the water – It’s show-time…
The first person who came to my mind on seeing that natural beauty was ‘Bear Grylls’ – co-presenter of ‘Man vs Wild’.He must be really fortunate to work with the nature. All you need to do here is to jump from one stone to another and hold your balance. It did seem a lot easy for me at the beginning – only till I went into the super cooled water…It was almost freezing in there and my body started to shiver when I am in the water itself…
Soon; after some quick photo shots,I came ot of the water and enjoyed a few moments in there. The fact that I didn’t find any trace of tiredness or hunger still wonders me as we had our lunch late in the evening. The rest was simply the ‘rest’…
The beauty and the adrenalin of Talakona really fancied me and I stepped into the return bus with a deep respect for Bear Grylls, Eskimos and the Nature…

My first water-fall experience...
My first waterfall experience…

H2O – Its Hard 2 Overturn…!

Yes…It’s literally hard to overturn a few things around in India. The Indian rupee in pacing down –so that industrial development in the country. But only a few recognize that another vital resource is also falling rapidly – And this ,unlike the others, couldn’t get itself in the ‘FrontPage headlines’…Now that resource that is ‘H’ard  2  ‘O’verturn or H2O – is what it actually means – Water or Underground water to specific…

It’s hard to believe that Over pumping of underground water has reached to a point known as ‘Peak water’, where there is no replenishing of it, which results in smaller harvests, every year…In many areas it has been necessary to go on digging deeper and deeper, with many areas almost hitting 1400 feet ! Now, in a country like India, where the majority of irrigation depends on underground water., This is a serious concern…

Now ,even if the best-of-the-smartphones needs to be ‘recharged’ periodically, our ‘Blue Planet’ is of no exception either…By recharging the groundwater by water harvested from the roof tops during the rainy season, the water table rises and the surrounding wells retain water throughout the year…But this is hardly possible in the present ‘Concrete Jungle’s where finding open land for water recharge is like finding “Life mass on Mars…”

Water is crucial for the sustainable development, including Environmental integrity, human health and agricultural progress…We cannot find our-self isolated from this H2O even for a single day – and I don’t find a reason why our next generation should treat this H2O as some ‘scarce compound’…

Life came to existence on this Blue-Planet only due to that unique ‘Bluely’ thing…With 70% of our planet and our body comprising this H2O, I hope we first need to feel its invisible bond with us – Its growing demand and its importance of each drop in the near future…

The UN has declared the year 2013 as the “ International year for Water Co-operation “ and I think if we coordinate to work cooperatively, we can Oventurn this scenario because H2O also means ‘H’ umans 2gether ‘O’ bey the nature and strive to build its integrity…

Lets preserve this Blue thing for our future...
Lets preserve this Blue thing for our future…

A piece of imagination or a scary truth..?

Yesterday I watched my favorite animation movie of all time – ‘WALL-E’.Though I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, something kept on troubling me all along that day.It was the opening scene of the movie – Our Earth being turned into a giant trash bin and was completely deserted with no animal or plant life.It is a good imagination – a great concept – but,is it also a scary truth?

Well.,its not just a fantasy or just a piece of thought from Andrew Stanton-the director of the movie. It is a crystal clear fact that we are unable to observe in our busy lifestyle.

The most exquisite thing in this vast universe – the blue planet – our Earth, will soon turn into a giant junkyard.Does it hurt – a bit.

Now just close your eyes and imagine yourself in such an environment with no green,no fresh air,no water, with all the Uvs and global warmings…How would it be?well, unfortunately it is the same environment that our future generation is going to live.Does that hurt – a lot.

The real future..?
The real future..?

It is our responsibility to provide a great culture for our next generations. It is our duty to leave these natural resources behind for our future beings. They have every right on these resources.

It is our personal actions that decide the fate of our future generations, not some alien invasions or massive asteroid collisions…

It is our attitude that needs to be changed.”Live and let live” should be our motto to protect these natural resources, plants, animals and never-the-less ‘our self’ from being extinct.

Finally,in the climax of the movie,it was a human(ship captain) who fought against all the odds to turn off a faulty program. It was his will to save the humankind that made him victorious.

Now,if a virtual animation character proved his determination. Why can’t we?
